Simple Domesticana

The clouds were out and the rain was a thin watery spray of film in the air; I seemed to have gleaned over the part that says cloudy with a slim-to-none chance of sun, but my imagination has taken over reality and today was nothing but sunshine and lollipops.

If I am to live in this weary weather of monotonous dulcet tones of beiges and greys, I will do so in technicolour and one fashionable bright blue woolen toque at a time.

Although, you – YOU! — have caught me in my domestic state sans apron and wicker basket. My itinerary of today:

  • Skype dates with beloved ones back home
  • Breakfast of sugared butter toast, pieces of dark chocolate, and strawberries
  • Bright blue woolen toque
  • Home-style baked cheesecake, black tea, and a Japanese copy of Harry Potter enjoyed at  the nearest cafe
  • An hour long peruse in the bookstore
  • A 3 hour long walkabout all corners of APITA department store in search for the perfect toaster oven (still not found)
  • Handwritten letters in purple and teal ink
  • More dark chocolate
  • Contemplations of a new video blog entry
  • Succulent pork with bamboo shoots and other delicate vegetables

Don’t know if this tidbit will assist you in your hunt for the perfect toaster oven, BUT –

Microwave ovens frequently double as toasters in the J. Or at least, mine did. I’m not sure how much microwaves run for, but you could always pull a Kevin* and sucker your bosses into paying for it.

*[One day, up in Tomakomai] Kevin, wondering aloud in front of his bosses: “I hear that winters are very cold in Tomakomai. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a kerosene stove to keep warm.” [The next day, up in Tomakomai] Kevin, upon entering his apaato, discovers a brand-new kerosene stove sitting in the middle of the room.

I should try to pull a Kevin. I know about the microwave-oven combos, but mine is definitely not one of them. It is purely a microwave: it only defrosts and warms things up. I want to bake something. :(

And those combos are soooo expensive. Wahhh! I need space for a decent toaster oven or, if I pull a Kevin quite rightly, then may be I’ll get one out of pity. Ha ha ha.
